Junior Studio Spring 2021
The aim of this project was to design an apartment building that promotes physical and mental well-being through the act of interaction with nature, community, and the spirit of place. What influenced the design process for the building and its exterior public space was the location of Boneyard Creek, a large tributary that runs through the Champaign area, located southeast of the proposed site. The title of the “Greenhouse” is quite literal as the profile of the building features a row of various-sized gabled roofs, appearing from ground level to resemble houses in a neighborhood, with green features including three growing areas, two vertical plant walls, and a rooftop garden terrace.
